Politically, I’m a moderate. I believe everyone should have the rights that American citizens should have. I believe that members of the LGBTQIA+ community should be able to get married and defend their homes with a gun of their choice.
But every few days, I see more and more that upsets me about “The Right “.
Your platform is to stand behind American values. You often quote The Constitution. You claim to stand for the moral majority of this country.
But do you?
Let’s see.
Let me bypass the typical “America is a melting pot” argument. Let me move passed the fact that The Constitution is supposed to apply to everyone, up to and including freedom from religious imposition… which seems to be a driving force in a vast majority of GOP-favored states…. Separation of church and state and all…
But my problem here, and by and large The Biggest problem in the United States, are the leaders of Conservative and Libertarian parties, and a good amount of the regular people who subscribe to the narrative that they have been pushing.
Eight Representatives of the GOP party voted against levying sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
Marjorie Taylor-Greene of Georgia.
Matt Gaetz of Florida.
Lauren Boebert of Colorado.
Thomas Massie of Kentucky.
Andy Biggs of Arizona.
Dan Bishop of North Carolina.
Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin.
Chip Roy of Texas.
I’m going to touch on these, and then I’ll get to some bigger noteworthy discussion, but first on someone that is supposed to be an American hero.…
Let’s start with Rep. Madison Cawthorn the latest honest reaction to the War in Ukraine. He called Ukrainians this and the country itself evil. However, Ukraine sought to simply exist independently from a domineering country, Russia, where currently you will be arrested even if your holding up a completely blank sign in solidarity with those Russian citizens who wish for the war to stop. In fact, this is the second time they’ve fought against a repressive government. Where does the thug come into play? Has Ukraine been forcing other countries to its will through the force of violence? No, but I know another country that it doing just that right now. You are no hero.
The response from the GOP Baseball team, of all groups, have only said “We wish he didn’t say that”. Not exactly a condemnation, nor an official response from the GOP itself. None of these following people have been called out for their public stances
Now on to Marjorie Taylor-Greene.
Greene stated on National Television, in what she called her address to the nation, that the Zelenskyy government “only exists because the Obama state department helped to overthrow the previous regime”. See definition of regime- An Authoritarian government.
She also made claims that President Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and Mitt Romney have financial interests in the country of Ukraine. There has been zero proof that any of this is true. And indeed investigations have already taken place that indicate this is provably untrue.
These are near verbatim quotes from Putin.
On February 21st, Matt Gaetz tweeted “I wonder whether Putin would be using UKRAINE to make his point about NATO… …if Democrats hadn’t used UKRAINE to exorcise their Impeachment demons….”
Not that this makes a lot of sense, but it certainly sounds Putin apologetic.
While not making statements in favor of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Loren Boebert equated the condemnation and arrests made of protesters and those who stormed the Capitol to the citizens of Ukraine, and how they need people to fight for their liberation. Truckers and Buffalo skin wearing protesters (that’s a real loose definition of the latter) are experiencing NOTHING similar to the citizens of Ukraine. Using the suffering of millions of Ukrainians to garner support from the Conservative masses is not showing support for the citizens of Ukraine. It’s not an address of concern or condemnation of Putin’s determined war. It’s pandering at best.
Thomas Massie posted a massive tweet explaining why he couldn’t vote for the resolution for sanctions against Russia. It reads as follows: “I fully support the right of the people of Ukraine to self determination. However there are many reasons I could not vote for the seven page Resolution that passed the House of Representatives today. The resolution contains an open ended call for additional and immediate “defensive security assistance.” This term is so broad that it could include American boots on the ground or, as some of my colleagues have already requested, US enforcement of a no-fly zone. It expands the geographic scope of the US commitment to the conflict in Ukraine by condemning the country of Belarus. We should not be seeking to name new enemies or committing to overturning other governments. It calls for “fully isolating” Russia economically. This would hurt low-income US citizens who are already reeling from inflation. Innocent people in Russia, many of whom oppose Putin’s aggression, would suffer under crippling sanctions, possibly turning them against us. Crippling sanctions could also drive Putin to become more desperate, inciting him to resort to drastic measures such as escalating the weapons employed or the people targeted. The resolution contains a gratuitous statement that Ukraine and NATO will determine the relationship between the two of them. Of course this is true, but why should Congress assert this now when the goal is to de-escalate the conflict? It calls for continuing support “as long as the Russian Federation continues to violate Ukraine’s sovereignty.” Depending on the definition of “violate,” this could be a US commitment to forever be actively engaged in a conflict with another nuclear country.”
While this is well-thought out, the basis of his argument here as to why should we impose sanctions, no-fly zones, condemn Belarus for supporting Russia, etc. on the question Why should Congress assert this now when the goal is to de-escalate the conflict? There was no de-escalating the conflict. There have been many attempts to do this… even with peace talks ending in temporary cease-fires, which both sides had agreed to, while Russia continued to bombard civilian buildings with missiles and bombs during and after said meetings for peace. There is no de-escalation. Putin desires to reform the USSR, he has said so on more than one occasion. Talking to him has proven ineffective. The U.S. is standing with NATO in its stance to avoid boots on the ground. That has not wavered. This is well-worded, but it is a piss poor excuse.
On February 3rd, Andy Biggs, founder and co-chair of the War Powers Caucus, sent a letter to President Biden demanding he request congressional approval, in accordance with the U.S. Constitution, prior to taking any offensive military action relating to Russian aggression towards Ukraine, including sending troops into Ukraine.
"The Constitution requires Congress to declare war if it determines that offensive military action is in our national security interest,” said Congressman Andy Biggs. “Deploying American troops into what could be a deadly and long-lasting conflict should be taken very seriously and requires congressional approval. President Biden must bring his arguments before Congress so it can exercise its constitutional prerogatives and determine whether a declaration of war is right for America.”
This is the only public statement that I am able to find from Andy Biggs concerning the war in Ukraine, and this isn’t truly even a statement. However, it is in direct conflict with his condemnation of President Biden for the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan… the decision made by, and process started by, former President Donald Trump.
Though voting nay for the sanctions on Russia, Dan Bishop has not offered any insight into his decision. Though this is not an address to the situation in Ukraine, I do believe that this fits quite accurately here. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said “I cannot sit idly by in Atlanta and not be concerned about what happens in Birmingham. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”. Exactly.
On February 24th, Glenn Grothman issued a public statement that you can find on his website. It is quoted as follows: “As were many Americans, I was horrified, but not shocked, by the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” said Grothman. “I am afraid American weakness over the past year was a contributing factor. The combination of open borders, an assault on the American energy industry, the failure to execute the Afghanistan withdrawal, debasing our currency, and inability to articulate American greatness all contribute to the lack of respect for Western ideals. “When I think of Russia and Ukraine, I cannot help but think of the Holodomor. I cannot understand why the American media does not talk about the starvation of around 4 million Ukrainians by the Russian-led Soviet Union. “I will receive a briefing this evening and learn more about the crisis and am praying for the people of Ukraine.”
This varies widely from voting against the sanctions levied against Russia. And please note, the basis of this statement is to attack the American government under the leadership of President Biden. Yet another one to hide behind words while politicizing the stance on the Russian led war.
On March 4th, Chip Roy joined the crowd while appearing on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight. Amid the controversy that is the Russian-Ukraine war and the involvement of the United States in that situation, Roy said the following. ““The fact of the matter is, we’re looking at [Ukraine] and we’re talking about war crimes? I want to talk about the crimes against humanity that have been perpetrated by Anthony Fauci, CDC and the federal government against the American people. I want to talk about the dead Americans — people who had myocarditis, people who had a reaction to the vaccine.”
This isn’t just politicizing the situation, it is literally ignoring the situation to pander to those who support him. That, to me, is a very weak and sad act.
That’s it for the Representatives that voted against the sanctions.
Now onto some big questions that I, and I feel all Americans, should have regarding stances from members of the GOP, two in particular. And finally, we’ll address the Russian news protocols.
Lindsey Graham has, multiple times, called for the assignation of Vladimir Putin.
Lindsey Graham has also been denounced by many in his party for such a stance. This same party was 100% in support of assassinating Osama bin Laden, a global terrorist that make the mistake of attacking the U.S. on American soil. This party was also 100% supportive of the assassination of Saddam Hussein, who did not attack us, but the nation of Kuwait. Again, they supported the assassination of Muammar Gaddafi, a terrorist leader in Libya. These are all leaders of evil regimes that affected the safety of the world, which includes the United States. Yet they do not support the assassination of Vladmir Putin. Why is that?
Over and over, I have heard conservatives, including his own children, claim that if Trump was in charge, things would not be happening this way. They insist that, with one phone call, Trump could pressure Putin to back down.
This is the same Trump who believed Putin over his own security officials. This is the same Trump that has supported Putin in his current endeavor, calling his actions genius.
On a conservative radio talk show, Trump said the following: "I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, 'This is genius.' Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine -- of Ukraine. Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that's wonderful."
The day after he made those comments, he effectively doubled down on them. "They say, 'Trump said Putin's smart.' I mean, he's taking over a country for two dollars' worth of sanctions," Trump told a crowd at a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago, according to a recording of the event. "I'd say that's pretty smart. He's taking over a country -- really a vast, vast location, a great piece of land with a lot of people, and just walking right in."
In a 2017 interview on Fox News, Fox's Bill O'Reilly called Putin a "killer" and Trump responded: "There are a lot of killers. Do you think our country is so innocent? Do you think our country is so innocent?"
There are numerous, meaning over 80, quotes from Trump praising Putin, complimenting him as well as the way he runs his country.
In fact, former National Security Advisor for Trump has admitted that Trump came very close to leaving NATO is 2018 and that Vladmir Putin was actually expecting that to happen. I wonder why?
No, I don’t. Trump, while in office, had made friends of dictators and enemies of democratic countries.
Trump also, again, praises Putin’s strength while admonishing Ukraine’s weak government. Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, marches the streets of the Capital city and has not fled. He is fighting alongside his citizens, supporting them in an even stronger way than Ukrainians have supported him.
Trump, meanwhile, ran and hid while his own supporters attempted a coup of the United States.
Supporters of Trump are correct. This would not be happening if Trump was in office. Trump would have withheld all support from Ukraine, as the country did not assist him in his election fraud conspiracies. Additionally, being such a huge fan of Putin, Trump would not have acted in any way to this atrocity, instead turning a blind eye, and maybe, while in office, have the same stance as he currently holds… Putin is in the right.
Finally, the star of all things wrong with America, Tucker Carlson. Carlson is such a poison to the world that Russian State News Media, the only media allowed to operate within Russia’s borders, has been issued a decree that the airing of Tucker Carlson Tonight is mandatory.
MANDATORY.
In a country currently closed off from any and all information not previously approved by The Kremlin, this speaks volumes. Carlson’s rhetoric is so Anti-American, so devoted to Putin, that Putin includes his broadcasts in Russia.
Tucker Carlson, along with the rest of the staff at Fox News, as well as those at NewsMax and OAN… to sum them up in one word is rather simple. That word is… Disgusting.
Anyone that is currently in agreement with those mentioned above?
They can call themselves patriots as often as they want. But it is an out and out lie. They are not patriots and they do not believe in the fundamental building blocks of what makes this country great.
Simply put, they’re communists.
I, for one, wish they would all relocate to where their allegiances lie.
In Russia.
